Honeyholic Afternoon Tea At The Writers Bar

Honeyholic Afternoon Tea At The Writers Bar

Makati, Philippines – Afternoon Tea is a beloved staple of The Writers Bar at Raffles Makati, and this coming August, the venue will be all abuzz with The Writers Bar’s newest afternoon tea theme.

The Writers Bar’s Honeyholic Afternoon Tea for two is a multi-tiered set of sweet and savoury culinary creations incorporating and inspired by its namesake – honey. Each bespoke canapè and confection was created to perfectly match the celebrated tea selection at The Writers Bar, which includes a signature Raffles Makati blend. Sweetening the set is a Honeyholic mocktail – perfect combination of citrus and saccharine – and a rich, aromatic, artisanal honey-based cocktail called Queen Bee, which can be enjoyed with an upgrade of the tea set. The honey used in the food and beverages is all harvested from Raffles Makati’s very own bee farm, making the tea set both certified sustainable and uniquely delicious.

To formally launch the new afternoon tea set, The Writers Bar held an intimate event on 28 July 2022 for invited guests, who were the first to sample the Honeyholic canapès and beverages. The event also featured “The Buzz About Bees,” a lively discussion of the important role of bees and beekeeping in providing sustainable ingredients. On hand for the panel was Alexis Dela Cuesta, resident beekeeper at the Museo Pambata and the founder of World Bee Day – Philippines. A Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner by trade, Alexis was inspired by the birth of his daughter (whose name is the Hebrew word for bees) to venture into urban beekeeping, which has become both a fulfilling passion and profitable hobby for himself and his family. His love for apicology has transformed into annual week-long World Bee Day celebrations, eight bee colonies of his own in an orphanage in Manila, a small business selling honey-based beauty products, and even the launch of  a bee-inspired board game called STING-A-WIN. At today’s panel moderated by Raffles Makati’s Director of Sales & Marketing, Eugene Tamesis, Alexis spoke happily about the joy he finds in raising bees with his family, the true taste of real, organic honey, and the culinary and environmental significance of Raffles Makati raising its own bee colonies for pure honey.

After the question-and-answer session with Alexis, Raffles Makati’s Executive Chef Béla Rieck discussed the inspiration that led to creating the Honeyholic Afternoon Tea set. Chef Béla called Raffles Makati keeping its own bees a “luxury,” and reiterated the unique qualities and advantages of homemade authentic honey. He then introduced the canapès that make up the Honeyholic Afternoon Tea set, which includes sweet and savoury culinary art, pastry delights, and bread and biscuit accompaniments. The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to socializing among guests as they all enjoyed a complimentary Honeyholic Afternoon Tea set. At the end of the event, guests were gifted with indulgent honeycomb pralines, bite-sized crunchy sweets also made from Raffles Makati’s bee farm and covered in decadent dark chocolate.

Honeyholic Afternoon Tea for two will be exclusively enjoyed at The Writers Bar starting 29 July 2022. Afternoon Tea is served from 2pm to 3:30pm and 4pm to 5:30pm daily. Advanced reservations are required. Table bookings may be made at https://bit.ly/BookTheWritersBar.
